Tuesday Tunes : Lady Gadonna?

by kranARI

Madonna must be rolling in her grave (so to speak, knock on wood) with the release of Lady Gagita’s new single / music video for Alejandro. It is beyond clear to me now that miss Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta┬áis set out to achieve so called “Queen on Pop status” during her lifetime.

Not only are the looks growing more similar between the two ladies (watch video for haircuts and lighting tricks drawing you straight back to the era of “Vogue“) but during the interview below you might notice similarities in expression, style and mannerism. Slightly scary.

After watching her interview on Larry King live, if you kindly ignore the sound delay, I came to the same conclusion I came to years ago about Madonna. The woman has a very tactical approach to her career as she is extremely intelligent and dramatic, she controls every aspect of her performance and gets involved in many different realms of the creative process. I was surprised to read that her Q magazine cover shoot had been a disaster in that she tried to control the entire creative process to no avail, which unfortunately ended up in a pretty bad cover choice. (Her argument was that the photos were not shocking enough, provocative enough and would not cause the stir in people she wished to create. Fair enough.

Lady Gaga behind the scenes

I myself have seen better photo shoots of her where the photographer has clearly worked in an innovative way to create something unprecedented) So,  I am not saying that controlling your image is always a bad thing. Madonna for one, has always been famous for it.

Gaga, who in her own right has created the “Haus of Gaga” -the team of artists who collaborate on her career. This is a great thing; a fantastic opportunity for people to express themselves independently, without the control of a label. She has literally taken leaps and brought creativity to a new level. Perhaps this is one of the reasons she gets compared to such an iconic artist like Madonna.

See part three of her interview with Larry King where she talks about Michael Jackson. Observe her accent – she has amazingly acquired what is known as the cross-continental accent (basically, the Madonna accent-watch a BBC interview with Madonna to observe).

Also below, I’ve included the full Alejandro video so that you can have a peak at the 8:44 minutes of magic she has created with her sex-simulating scenes, her homo-erotic dances and the themes that revolve mainly around the modern day military situation.

Holiday Heat : Women that inspire

by kranARI

I have always been inspired by strong, talented women who are not afraid to speak their mind and express themselves fearlessly through the arts. Actresses like Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore know how to keep their private lives private but somehow they have never fallen short of being able to bring their passion to the screen. Women like these are role models to younger generations, not just because of their talent, but mostly because they are fearless – openminded and true risk takers. The choose movies based on instinct, they like to work with people who will enrich their craft and they don’t worry about money, fame or awards. These are the people I have always looked up to artistically and personally: women that I find intriguing.

This year, there are some new women who have impressed with their talent, ideas, courage and passion. These are my top 3 inspiring women of the year.

1. CHELY WRIGHT

Chely Wright

Chely has been the swan amongst the murky waters of country music – an artist who has chosen to defy the odds and inspire with her courage and openness after facing years and years of self-imposed oppression and shame. Wright is officially the first country singer to publicly and openly announce her sexuality and fight for the rights of homosexual women. I absolutely love the honestly that follows this girl, both in her book and in her interviews. She candidly talks about her struggle as a country singer to come out to her friends, family and fans, how she feared her career would come to an instant end and how religion affected her to the point of self-hatred and loathing. It was only when she found herself with a gun in her mouth that she decided to change her life around. Her story is pure and multi-faceted and I strongly suggest you pick up a copy of her book “Like me” and read its wonderful review written by Heather Hogan on AfterEllen.com

2. TINA FEY

Tina Fey

How often is it that you find a woman on television that is beautiful, funny, cultured, smart AND talented. I mean, Fey has beaten the odds and has built her success though the creation of a hit show (30 Rock), multiple years on the popular TV series SNL (Saturday Night Live) and has lately sealed the deal by appearing in several movies on the big screen. Her intelligence is a force to be reckoned with and her wonderful sense of humour and improvisational talent are only the cherry on the cake. Only by watching scenes from the movie “Date Night” will you be able to appreciate the fine art of improvisation and great comedic timing – something which she shares and bring alive with the help of her co-star Steve Carell. A great Tina Fey interview to watch is in an older CuetheArtist article entitled “Comedy Special”. I am definitely in awe of this woman as an artist but also admire the fact that she has been able to achieve so much, and such quality work by such a young age while simultaneously having a family. If only we could all put our talents to good use and be as proactive as she has been…

3. LADY GAGA

Lady Gaga

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta has been an unstoppable force this past year. She has been artistically compared to the like of Madonna and her popularity to that of the Beatles. I guess what really turns me on about this woman and that she works really really hard and that she is dedicated and passionate. I have to admit that her dedication and artistry is sometimes over the top but more artists than ever before have admitted her undeniable talent and claim to have been greatly influenced by her. The driving force behind “Haus of Gaga” as she calls herself and her posse definitely comes from the woman herself. Call it a drive to be famous, known, accepted, successful – my impression is that she simply wants to work – the only difference between her and other artists is the fact that she wants to be different and she wants to be unique. My fear is that she will one day drive herself into the ground through exhaustion but that there would have been a fire, not a flame, ablaze the industry for the time she was around to pave new paths for future music generations to come.
